This former Bachelorette has come a long way since giving away that last rose. While Jillian Harris works as a designer for an extreme home-makeover show (with extreme hours!), she also runs her own successful design practice while doling out practical design, fashion and lifestyle advice on her website. Rouge caught up with Jillian to find out how this modern-day designing woman always manages to look her best, and what’s on her beauty agenda for the holidays.
Rouge: How does work affect your beauty routine?
Jillian: I have a crazy schedule. When I’m on the road, I don’t sleep enough or drink enough water, so my skin suffers. I make sure I have a really good bedtime moisturizing regimen. How would you describe your beauty look for the party season?

What are some of the best makeup tips you’ve learned from the pros?
Fill in your brows, use a good liquid eyeliner — I like to use either a thin liquid liner solo, or a liquid liner paired with a cream eyeliner to get a smoldering effect — and highlight your brow arch and the inside of your eyes to open them up. Oh yes, and don’t forget a good contour with bronzer. I’ve seen makeup artists use a light brown eyeshadow but I haven’t had the guts to try this yet!

Is there a beauty look that you love but don’t wear?
That super-glamorous look. I’ve tried it before, but felt that it didn’t really look like “me.” I like the natural look, or just one step above it.
What holiday makeup look would you recommend for someone wanting a subtle beauty update?
I really think bronzer and a pop of coral or orange on your lips. I’ve also noticed a big trend in thicker eyebrows. Filling in sparse brows with a smoky brown shadow and the right brush can really give a natural-looking effect.
What’s your favorite hair look for the holidays?
Definitely a bouncy, high ponytail. I’m just so busy during the holidays — I love to entertain and stay busy — so keeping my hair up and curled seems the easiest. I also feel that my hair is naturally drier in the winter, so I like to style it less and wear it up. Plus, it makes me feel a bit more glam, even when I’m rushing around picking up gifts and planning parties.
Can you share some hair tips you’ve picked up from the red carpet?
